The New York Islanders defeated the New York Rangers by a score of 4-2 on Thursday evening at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The loss snapped the Blueshirts’ six-game win streak and it was a game in which the team didn’t deserve to win. Here’s how the game went for the Blueshirts in terms of Game Score.

The Rangers’ rookie defender came to play against the Islanders and was arguably the team’s best player. He was a beast regarding possession with a +7 5v5 Corsi differential, fired two shots on net while blocking three shots.
Additionally, Skjei picked up his 24th and 25th assists of the season and now sits second among Ranger defenders in points with 27. Among NHL defenders Skjei is eighth in even strength points with 23 which is ahead of defenders such as Kevin Shattenkirk, Jacob Trouba and Ryan Suter. The Blueshirts really have a gem in Skjei, and it has been amazing to see him blossom during the 2016-17 campaign.
