With Derek Dorsett on the mend, the New York Rangers wasted little time in acquiring a player with a similar skill set, sending a conditional 7th round pick to the Los Angeles Kings for the pugnacious Dan Carcillo.

The 6-foot, 203-pound Carcillo has played in 26 games for the Kings this year, scoring 1 goal and adding an assist. He's dressed for just one game since December 15th.

But, goal scoring is obviously not the reason Glen Sather acquired the 28-year-old. Carcillo is a player that is unafraid to mix things up–he once amassed 324 penalty minutes in just 57 games–and the hope is he'll stir the pot for a Rangers team that has looked flat at times this year.

Coach Alain Vigneault said there had been discussions of acquiring Carcillo even before Derek Dorsett's injury, saying the winger brings an "element of toughness" and calling it a "low-risk move."

While at his best, Carcillo–who won a cup with Chicago last season–brings toughness to a Rangers' lineup that has shown little of it, at his worst, he's a lose cannon and a liability. The man they call "Carbomb" has gone off more than a handful of times in his career–he was suspended 3 separate times just in the 2011-2012 season.

So in other words, if he crosses the line, expect him to take a long, unwanted, rest courtesy of Brendan Shanahan.

For the time being, the left winger figures to slot into the spot on the Rangers 4th line vacated by the injured Derek Dorsett (4-6 weeks, broken leg). Once upon a time, Carcillo could chip in a bit offensively–he's topped 10 goals twice in his career–but with just 9 tallies in the last 4 seasons, those days appear to be behind him.

-As expected, Cam Talbot will start tonight in Toronto. Talbot beat the Leafs on 12/23 in a shootout.

-Nothing official, but expect JT Miller to dress and play on the 4th line tonight.
