Rangers 101 is going on-the-record and saying that Ryan Callahan is an excellent captain and a superb playmaker. During this shift at the beginning of the second period, with the score still 0-0, Callahan did everything he could to keep the puck out of the Rangers' net — even without his stick.
Callahan blocked two shots, one of which also cleared the puck out of the zone, and he also laid out two Winnpeg Jets players, with the last hit coming right before Callahan left the ice.
It brought life to Madison Square Garden, and the crowd emphatically praised their captain.
Too bad the shift didn't provide that big a spark as the Jets scored on the next shift after a major defensive breakdown, but it was some great effort on the part of Callahan, which is why he's such a fan-favorite.
Even though Callahan played his heart out, the Rangers still lost to the Winnipeg Jets 4-3Tags: Hockey, Madison Square Garden, New York, New York Rangers, NHL, Ryan Callahan, Winnipeg Jets
