Loading ...Max Pacioretty will be getting off easy, very easy for his hit from behind on Ryan McDonagh.
Pacioretty should've been a repeat offender as far as dirty hits go, as he was suspended for a hit on Kris Letang in November 2011. Instead, he received no penalty at all for the hit on McDonagh and will be ready to play in the team's next game.
No suspension or fine was a surprise considering he got his elbow to the back of McDonagh's head, and likely caused a concussion for the defenseman. He was called for boarding on the play, and McDonagh's nose was left bloddied as well.
It really makes us wonder what exactly the league is doing for player safety. They claim it's very important, but this cheap shot — which was definitely a retaliation for McDonagh's hit on Pacioretty on the side boards earlier in the game.
We know Brendan Shanahan says he goes through a system for every hit, but he obviously doesn't.
This hit looked very familiar to the hit Carl Hagelin put on Daniel Alfredsson in the 2012 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals that had him suspended for three games. Just wanted to note that Shanahan sure didn't look at the tape close enough, especially for a player that has already been suspended once by the league.
Had it been Sidney Crosby, do you Pacioretty would be suspended for the year? That assumption is definitely a stretch, but you know he'd get at least a game.
