When Darroll Powe went down with a concussion, the New York Rangers wasted no time in calling up 24-year-old winger Brandon Mashinter from the AHL's Connecticut Whale.

It's been a busy past few days for Mashinter as he and the Whale are coming off playing three games in three nights, and winning all three. Just when he finally went to relax last night he received a phone call telling him he was being called up to the NHL with the Rangers.

So it was a tired, yet excited, Brandon Mashinter who chatted with BlueshirtsUnited.com's Jim Cerny Monday afternoon at the MSG Training Center after his first full practice with the club.

This is the second time this season the Rangers recalled Mashinter, as his first stint was very, very brief with the team. This time, the 6'3" 220-pound is looking for an extended stay after tearing up the AHL with 16 goals and 17 assists (33 points) in 65 games this season with the Whale.

Mashinter will battle Chris Kreider to take Powe's spot in the lineup.
