The New York Mets played 13-14 ball in May, and almost all the credit for that record belongs to the offense. The lineup generated 5.7 runs per game in the month of May, making it obvious that Mets 101's Met of the Month Award would have to go to a hitter for the second straight month. Wilmer Flores certainly stated his case, batting .379 to essentially seize the third base job away from Jose Reyes. Neil Walker also heated up, batting .321 with four homers and 18 RBI's for the month. The decision was difficult, but we have chosen to give our Met of the Month Award to the man who has served as the sparkplug for the offense all season, outfielder Michael Conforto.

Conforto continued to build on his strong start to the season in May, batting .314 while leading the team in home runs (7) and RBI's (21) for the month. The offensive surge was big for Conforto, who is breaking out as a star after a sophomore slump in 2016. The Mets have begun a campaign to write in Conforto as an All Star since he was not listed on the initial ballot, and he is certainly well deserving of appearing in the midsummer Classic. Conforto has been far and away the Mets' most consistent hitter this season and his efforts in May have landed him his first Met of the Month Award of 2017.
