Mets 101 Game Preview: Atlanta Braves at New York Mets

The New York Mets (61-70) welcome the NL East rival Atlanta Braves (68-63) Tuesday night, as they open up a three game series at Citi Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM. For the Amazins, it will mark the start of six-game homestand that will close out the month of August, with the Mets currently sitting 14.5 games out of first in the division but just 7.5 out of the NL Wild Card.

Mets Starting Lineup

Dillon Gee (4-6, 3.84) will look to right the ship Tuesday night in the midst of possibly the worst stretch of his career. Gee is 0-5 with a 5.71 ERA in his last seven starts with the Mets just 1-6 in those starts.

Alex Wood (9-9, 3.05) is throwing the ball well as of late, posting a 2-0 record with a 2.21 ERA in his last three starts. Lifetime, Wood has never beaten the Mets, going 0-1 with a 4.19 ERA.

Pre-Game Notes

  • Freddie Freeman continues to lead the Braves offense with a .292 batting average with 17 homers and 68 RBI. Freeman has torched the Mets this year, batting .392 with one homer and 13 RBI in 13 games.
  • David Wright will get Tuesday off to rest his various ailments. Wright had a 13 game hitting streak from August 2 to 14 but in the last eight games is hitting just .107 (3-for-28).
