The New York Mets (59-65) have won two in a row against the Chicago Cubs (52-70) despite collecting only eight hits in the first two games of the series. An Eric Campbell three run homer was the difference as the Mets beat the Cubs 3-2 Friday night, and some timely hitting helped the Mets secure a 7-3 victory last night. The two teams continue their four game set this afternoon, with first pitch at Citi Field scheduled for 1:10 pm.
The Mets will send rookie right hander Rafael Montero (0-3, 6.12 ERA) to the mound in search of his first major league win. Montero struggled in his return to the majors on Tuesday, allowing five runs in five innings to take a loss against the Washington Nationals. The Cubs will counter with right hander Jake Arrieta (6-4, 2.77 ERA). Arrieta took a tough loss his last time out despite allowing only two runs in 7.1 innings against the Milwaukee Brewers.
