Jacob deGrom appears to be on track for a very quick return from the disabled list. After reporting no problems throwing from flat ground yesterday, deGrom threw a 20 pitch bullpen session prior to this afternoon's game with the Chicago Cubs. deGrom threw all fastballs and appears to be all but set to rejoin the New York Mets' rotation in Los Angeles, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports.
deGrom told reporters that he didn't throw changeups in this bullpen session, but he threw them while playing catch. deGrom is expected to have a more formal bullpen session where he throws all of his pitches in the middle of the week. If all goes well there, deGrom should be set to return to the major league rotation on Saturday. deGrom would be lined up to face the Los Angeles Dodgers.
When deGrom returns, the Mets are expected to send Rafael Montero back to Triple-A Las Vegas. Montero pitched well today, allowing one run in 7.1 innings against the Cubs.
