The New York Mets (57-65) have fallen on very hard times thanks to the Washington Nationals. The Nationals beat up the Mets over the last week, winnng five out of six against them, including a sweep at Citi Field. The Mets are likely thrilled to put the Nationals behind them for a while and will look to right the ship against the National League Central's worst team, the Chicago Cubs (52-68). The two sub .500 squads will open up a four game set at Citi Field tonight, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 pm.
The Mets will send right hander Zack Wheeler (7-8, 3.53 ERA) to the bump. Wheeler took a no decision in his last outing after allowing three runs in six innings against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. The Cubs will counter with lefty Travis Wood (7-9, 4.86 ERA). Wood also took a no decision in his last outing despite pitching six shutout innings against the Tampa Bay Rays.
