The New York Mets (57-64) have been dreadful against the Washington Nationals (65-53) this season. The Mets have gone just 2-9 against the division leaders this season, and they fittingly trail the Nationals by nine games in the division standings. The Nationals have won the first two games of their three game set, and the Mets will be left to try and avoid the sweep tonight. First pitch for the finale at Citi Field is scheduled for 7:10 pm.

The Mets will send right hander Dillon Gee (4-4, 3.54 ERA) to the bump tonight. Gee pitched much better in his last outing, allowing only one run in seven innings against the Philadelphia Phillies, but took a no decision. The Nationals will counter with their talented young ace, right hander Stephen Strasburg (8-10, 3.68 ERA). Strasburg got shelled against the Atlanta Braves last Friday, allowing seven runs in five innings to take his 10th loss of the season.
