The New York Mets (54-60) knew coming into this series with the Washington Nationals (61-51) that they had to win two out of three at minimum. The Mets got off to a good start as Zack Wheeler beat the Nationals on Tuesday night, but the Nats battered Jonathon Niese last night to even up the series. The two teams will look to win the rubber game this afternoon in a matinee affair. First pitch at Nationals Park is scheduled for 12:35 pm.

The Mets will send their hottest pitcher, rookie right hander Jacob deGrom (6-5, 2.77 ERA) to the mound. deGrom is looking to win his sixth consecutive start, and flirted with a no hitter in his last outing. deGrom would pick up a win in that game against the San Francisco Giants by yielding only two runs in 7.1 innings pitched. The Nationals will counter with All Star right hander Jordan Zimmermann (7-5, 3.00 ERA). Zimmermann earned a win in his last outing, tossing seven shutout innings to beat the Philadelphia Phillies last Saturday.
