Mets 101 Game Preview: Miami Marlins at New York Mets

The New York Mets (42-50) continue their final homestand before the 2014 All-Star Break as they open up a three-game series with the Miami Marlins (44-47) Friday night at Citi Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM. The Mets have won five of seven since returning home for the last ten games leading into the Mid-Summer Classic and just missed sweeping the Atlanta Braves with a 3-1 loss Thursday night. The Marlins hold the same 5-4 record in July as the Mets and are coming off a 2-1 series loss at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Mets and Marlins season series is currently tied at 5-5.

Zack Wheeler (4-8, 4.07) starts for the Mets coming off two consecutive strong starts. In his last two outings, Wheeler has pitched 6 1/3 innings, while allowing only one run in each.

The Mets will face a tough opponent in Miami ace Henderson Alvarez (6-3, 2.27) who has helped the Marlins win in his last ten starts, the longest streak in the Majors. Alvarez has lost to the Mets just once in his career, holding a lifetime 4-1 record with a 2.21 ERA through six starts.
