After closing to within five games of .500 by winning five of six, the New York Mets are headed in the wrong direction again. The Mets (36-43) have lost two games in a row, with the latest defeat coming last night at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates. A three run homer from rookie outfielder Gregory Polanco was enough to help the Pirates (40-39) defeat the Mets 5-2. The Mets will look to even their series with the Buccos this evening. First pitch at PNC Park is scheduled for 7:05 pm.

The Mets will send right hander Jacob deGrom (1-4, 3.75 ERA) to the mound this evening. deGrom finally recorded his first win in his last outing, tossing seven shutout innings to beat the Miami Marlins last Saturday. The Pirates will counter with right hander Brandon Cumpton (3-2, 4.93 ERA). Cumpton is also coming off a win in his last outing, tossing seven shutout innings to defeat the Chicago Cubs last Sunday.
