Jacob deGrom's rough outing last night led to a loss for the New York Mets. The Mets (31-39) fell 6-2 to the St. Louis Cardinals (38-32) in the opener of their three game series. The Mets will look to even their series with the Cardinals tonight. First pitch at Busch Stadium is scheduled for 8:15 pm.

The Mets will send left hander Jonathon Niese (3-3, 2.54 ERA) to the mound tonight. Niese was brilliant in his last outing, allowing only one run over 7.2 innings of work. Niese took a no decision, however, in a contest the Milwaukee Brewers would win in 13 innings. The Cardinals will send talented young right hander Michael Wacha (4-5, 2.88 ERA) to the bump. Wacha lost against the Tampa Bay Rays his last time out, allowing four runs in five innings of work.
