The New York Mets (28-41) head to the "City of Brotherly Love" on Friday to kick off a three-game weekend series at Citizens Bank Park with the Philadelphia Phillies (35-38). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM. The Mets sit five games behind the Phils who are currently in third place in the NL East, 7.5 games behind first place Atlanta. The ballclubs have not met since late April and the Phillies have taken five out of six games between the division rivals this season.

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. LF Eric Young Jr.
  2. 2B Daniel Murphy
  3. 3B David Wright
  4. RF Marlon Byrd
  5. 1B Lucas Duda
  6. C Anthony Recker
  7. CF Juan Lagares
  8. SS Omar Quintanilla
  9. SP Jeremy Hefner

Jeremy Hefner (1-6, 3.96) gets the ball for Terry Collins' Mets, still searching for some consistency as we move into late June. The Mets pulled off a win in his last start June 16 against Chicago, just the second Met win in the 14 games that Hefner has started.

He'll face Cole Hamels (2-10, 4.40) who is having an uncharacteristically terrible season having won just once in his last nine starts. One of his wins however, came against the Mets on April 26, as Hamels allowed a run on just two hits in six innings of work, as the Phils cruised to a 5-1 win at Citi Field.

Mets News and Notes

  • It appears Jon Niese may be heading to the disabled list after leaving Thursdays win at Atlanta in the fourth inning with left shoulder discomfort. Greg Burke would likely be recalled to fill Niese's roster spot.
  • Chase Utley returns to the Phillies lineup Friday after being sidelined with ribcage soreness back in May. Utley will hit second and play second base. In a corresponding move, utilityman Michael Martinez was optioned to AAA Lehigh Valley.
