As expected, the Mets have now officially placed shortstop Ruben Tejada on the 15-day disabled list with a right quad strain. Infielder Jordany Valdespin has been recalled from AAA Buffalo to fill his spot on the roster. Justin Turner will start in place of Tejada at shortstop and bat seventh tonight in Philadelphia.

Valdespin was optioned to Buffalo Sunday to make room for relief pitcher D.J. Carrasco. Since Tejada has been placed on the DL, Valdespin can be recalled without waiting the mandatory ten-day period.

Tejada is off to an excellent start in 2012, his first season as a regular in the Mets lineup. The 22-year old is batting .305 with eight RBI and 14 runs scored, and has a .982 fielding percentage.

Valdespin, 24, made his major league debut April 23rd at Citi Field against the Giants. In seven games at the big league level, Valdespin is currently hitless in six at-bats. In 17 games with AAA Buffalo, Valdespin is batting .276 with seven RBI and 13 runs scored. He also has two home runs. The Dominican Republic native was signed by the Mets as an amateur free agent in 2007 and has spent his entire career in the Mets farm system.
