When you take a look at Derek Fisher's coaching staff, it's a strong blend of the two teams he had the strongest ties to; the Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

One of the more interesting hires; Brian Keefe, who came from Oklahoma City, apparently has extremely strong ties and a close relationship to current NBA MVP Kevin Durant, which Marc Berman of the New York Post found out from a league source.

“He’s Durant’s guy,’’ the league source said. During last season, Durant noted Keefe had put him in his place regarding body language and attitude.
One thing that has now been mentioned is the possibility of using Keefe and Fisher as drawing points to potentially lure Durant to New York once he's a free agent in 2016 and pairing him with Carmelo Anthony.
That is, if the Knicks have the salary cap room, which if they shed Amar'e Stoudemire's contract next season, they'll have some room to do so. They also got cap room when they traded Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton to the Dallas Mavericks. So if the Knicks have serious desires to get Durant to Madison Square Garden, Keefe could ultimately be the key to luring him in free agency.
