After three years as the New York Knicks play-by-play radio announcer, and sometimes replacing Mike Breen on TV, Spero Dedes is moving on to pursue bigger dreams on a national stage.

From Bob Raissman of the Daily News:

After three years as voice of the Knicks on the MSG Radio Network, Dedes is moving on to expand his national play-by-play presence.

“Over the past couple of months it had just become clear there were going to be too many scheduling conflicts in order for me to move up and do what I am going to do nationally,” Dedes said Wednesday. “On their (MSG) end it wasn’t going to work. We just came to a fork on in the road.”

Dedes’ MSG contract expired after this past season.

Raissman went on to discuss potential replacements including Mike Crispino, who has filled in for Dedes when Dedes does TV games or even perhaps rehiring the exclamatory Gus Johnson, who Dedes replaced three years ago.

Dedes has a smooth, yet excitable delivery and he will be missed. Dedes always had great knowledge for the game and look for his star to shine on a bigger stage.

More from Raissman's column:

“I enjoyed my time at the Garden. I’ll have good memories working with the whole crew,” Dedes said. “It’s a great production group.”
