With all of the talk about Carmelo Anthony's future many have overlooked his performance this season. He may have won the scoring title last season but this season Anthony is having the best year in a New York Knicks uniform. In fact, one could argue this has been his best all-around season in the NBA. That has been recognized by the NBA as he's been named player of the week.

New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony has played very well all season. He's shown more effort on the defensive end, he's gotten his teammates more involved on the offensive end and he's put an emphasis on rebounding. This is arguably his best season as an NBA player. Now he's been recognized as the player of the week for his efforts to turn the Knicks season around.

InsideHoops reports Anthony has been named the NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

The New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony and the Sacramento Kings’ DeMarcus Cousins today were named NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Jan. 6, through Sunday, Jan. 12.

Anthony led the Knicks to a 3-0 week which included wins over the Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers. He ranked second in the conference in scoring (27.0 ppg) and steals (2.33 spg) and third in minutes (39.2 mpg). Anthony connected on 12-of-24 field goals en route to 29 points, and added eight rebounds and five assists on Jan. 9, during New York’s 102-92 win over Miami.

There is little doubt how impactful Anthony has been for the Knicks this season. However, the team has struggled mightily. That has changed since the new year. The Knicks could very easily be undefeated in 2014.

Regardless, this start has helped the Knicks begin to dig their way out of trouble and work their way back into the playoff picture in the East. That is all caused by the team work shown by the entire roster. However, it all starts at the top with the teams best player.

Right now the schedule is favorable to the Knicks getting on a run and fighting their way towards being a .500 club. They should very easily work their way into a playoff spot. The Eastern Conference hasn't been very strong this season. However, if they don't want to be a seventh of eighth seed and want to get themselves in position to be a fourth, fifth or sixth seed they'll have to continue to play the way they have recently and work together instead of a group of individuals.

One major step to reaching those goals is for Anthony to continue his high level of play. Congratulations on your Eastern Conference Player of the Week acknowledgement Carmelo Anthony. If this play continues 2014 could be a very good year for both you and the Knicks.
