Jared Zwerling reports that Haddadi is "still possible" for the Knicks, though, so maybe the signing of Tyler wasn't enough to ease head coach Mike Woodson's wants for a reserve big man. Or, maybe, Haddadi would fill the final role on the team's 15-man roster.
Haddadi worked out for the Knicks on August 16, though no traction has been made in talks since that time. The Knicks certainly want to bolster their depth down low prior to the start of training camp in October, and Haddadi represents one of the most affordable options still available.
Having been in the NBA since 2008, the 7'2" big man has experience in the NBA. The Iranian got his start with the Memphis Grizzlies and played there until the second half of last season. He finished out 2012-13 with the Phoenix Suns. His production with the Suns was the high point of his career. He averaged 4.1 points and 5.1 rebounds in 13.8 minutes per game as a defensive reserve.
That many minutes may be hard to come by on the Knicks, but he could reasonably see around eight minutes per game under Woodson. Primarily considered a defensive reserve, Haddadi uses his great length to block shots and grab boards in traffic. This is what will get him playing time should he sign with the Knicks.
Zwerling states that his sources have told him that Haddadi would be welcome to signing the veteran's minimum, and that's exactly what the Knicks would be willing to give him at this point in the offseason. There's still over a month until training camp gets under way, but don't expect the Knicks to wait that long to sign their 15th player.
