The New York Knicks played a physical Atlantic division battle against the Boston Celtics.  The Knicks vs Celtics have always been wars and the past couple of years have gotten more and more physical but the Celtics keep coming out on top.  Last night the Knicks let the Celtics and Kevin Garnett get under their skin and it really effected the way they played the game.

Last night the Knicks MVP and star player Carmelo Anthony let emotions get the best of him.  Last night was Anthony's first real bad game of the season and it did not start when he and Garnett started jawing.  Right from the tip Anthony looked off of his game and i think it was the Celtics zone defense that really got him frustrated.  They were doubling and without a penetrating Point Guard it was hard for him to find an open shot.  Last night the Knicks really missed Raymond Felton driving and creating open shots for himself and others.  The Felton pick and roll really opens up the floor for the entire team and Carmelo Anthony.

Kevin Garnett did what he does best and that is get under the skin of the opposing team's best player.  Carmelo Anthony fell right into the trap and once he was in he tried to hard to beat Garnett and in fact shot the Knicks out of the game.  Carmelo Anthony turned to hero ball once the incident with Garnett happened and Anthony was stone cold from the field and just could not get it going.

This game is not all on Anthony either, the defense struggled again to get stops down the stretch and the Knicks are now just 5-5 in their last 10.  They are also only 3-4 in their last 7 at home.  The Knicks are a struggling basketball team right now and they need to get back to what got them off to such a hot start.  They need to get back to defense and ball movement.  When they were rolling they were letting their defense turn into easy offense.  This will also help Carmelo Anthony get back into his rhythm and will keep him from having to work so hard on the offensive end.

The Knicks may be getting some help in their bac kcourt very soon.  Iman Shumpert was cleared for 5-5 full contact drills today and practiced with the team.  It is now up to him and Coach Woodson to see when he feels comfortable returning to the Lineup.  If his knee responds well to the practices he could return to action either Thursday night or Friday night.  Shumpert will bring something the Knicks have been lacking all season and that is perimeter defense and speed.
