Battle of New York Part 3: Keys to the Win

There is simply two reasons why the New York Knicks won this game, Defense and Carmelo Anthony.  For the first time in maybe 5 or 6 games the Knicks played defense like they were at the start of the season.  Carmelo Anthony what is there to say?  He has been unbelievable this season and tonight he stepped up big time when he was clearly not 100%.

Carmelo Anthony was in pain but decided to play last night due to the Knicks missing so many players due to injury and Steve Novak with the Flu.  He went out tested the ankle pre game and decided he could move well enough to help the team win and did he ever.  He came out last night and did not miss a beat.

The most impressive thing about Carmelo Anthony is how much his 3-point shooting has improved from his Denver days to now.  He has become a knock down shooter for the Knicks and it is making him almost impossible to stop.  Teams can no longer give him the 3-point shot and he is using it to his advantage driving by defenders with ease and getting to the rim.

The Knicks defense last night really stepped up for the first time in maybe 5 or 6 games.  The past few games the Knicks have not showed that intensity on the defensive end like they did to start the season but last night it came back in a big way.  The Nets came out firing but in the second half the Knicks came out and really defended and really started to make the Nets take some bad shots.

Tyson Chandler played like the defensive player of the year again and really was contesting as many shots as he possibly could.  The past few games he was not showing that fire that we are used to seeing from Chandler but last night it came back on both ends of the court.  Tyson Chandler is the anchor of this defense and when he is playing well this team can play stifling defense.

The New York Knicks are now 19-6 and hold a 6 game lead in the Atlantic Division.  The Knicks first goal this season was to win the Division and right now they are taking control of it and looking to run away with it.  The Knicks play the Chicago Bulls on Friday night at the Garden and there is a slim possibility that Amar'e Stoudemire could return but Sunday is a more likely return date.
