Amare Stoudemire is an NBA superstar. He's credited with bringing respectability and legitimacy back to the New York Knicks and New York basketball as a whole. However, he plays for another team. At home Amare has three children — Amar’e Jr., Ar’e and Assata — and long-term girlfriend Alexis Welch he's responsible for. For his home team he plays provider, role model, father and partner to those he loves. How he has a new  role and title, husband.

Amare Stoudemire and Alexis Welch got married on the roof deck of their apartment. That same apartment had previously been flooded during Hurricane Sandy.

The couple began dating in 2002. As reported by Knicks 101, after a 10 years together Stoudemire and Welch got engaged outside the Le Meurice Hotel Belle Etoile, overlooking the Eiffel Tower, while on a trip to Paris.

The engagement ring was a Shayan Afshar designed 81/2-carat diamond that cost more than $1 million. Alexis can thank the Knicks and their max contract for that small purchase.

The couple kept their wedding plans private. Even Amare's teammates were unaware of the ceremony. The intimate affair took place with only 12 guests in attendance and took place on 12/12/12.

The New York Daily News reports the couple plans to hold a larger celebration for friends and family alike during the summer but wanted to keep the nuptial ceremony small and intimate.

“They decided to do this because of the date, and they wanted to do something spiritual and private for themselves,” says one insider, who adds that the couple plan on throwing a bigger wedding this summer which Stoudemire’s teammates, who were not aware he was getting married, will be invited to.

Welch wore a custom-made traditional ethnic wedding dress. Her wedding ring was designed by Harry Glinberg. Amare wore a Calvin Klein suit. His wedding ring was designed by Shayan Afshar.

Barely able to hold back from sharing their good news, Welch immediately changed her Instagram name to AlexisAStoudemire and Amare sent out a picture and message on his @Amareisreal Twitter account.

The ceremony was more spiritually based than focused on any one religion but did have Jewish elements involved. After the ceremony the couple attended the “12-12-12” concert at Madison Square Garden.
