New York Knicks' Amare Stoudemire is known as a man who is constantly evolving and growing. He's spend time overseas learning about his families past. He's studied religion, fashion and politics. However, sometimes in life you learn that the answer you were searching for the entire time was in front of your face all along. After a 10 year wait, Stoudemire and long time companion Alexis Welch got engaged to get married while on a trip to Paris.
Alexis Welch, the mother of Amare Stoudemire's three children, said yes! Is there any place better than Paris, France to bring out the romantic side in all of us? While overlooking the Eiffel Tower lights outside of their penthouse at Le Meurice Hotel Belle Etoile Royal Suite Stoudemire asked Welch for her hand in marriage.
Stoudemire showed his romantic side by surprising Welch with a dinner after spending their day taking on a historical tour of Paris. After Stoudemire was drafted by the Phoenix Suns ninth overall in the 2002 NBA draft, the couple met and started dating. Now they plan to get married in 2012.
Jennifer Garcia of People.com reports Stoudemire is very happy and looking towards the future.
"I have been planning my proposal for a while and overlooking the entire Paris skyline seemed like a perfect place. I am so happy she said 'yes,' and now we can continue to build our life together as husband and wife," Stoudemire told PEOPLE from Paris.
Stoudemire reportedly spent more than $1 million on the ring. He and Los Angeles-based jeweler Shayan Afshar designed the huge 8.5 carat radiant-cut ring. The 3.5 carat diamond is set in 18 karats of white cold.
Knicks101 would like to congratulate both Stoudemire and Welch and wish them a lifetime of happiness. Marriage is a lot of give-and-take and a lifetime of work but hopefully for the couple's and their children's sake they will stick together through the good and bad times and enjoy one another until they shuffle off this mortal coil.Tags: Alexis Welch, Amare Stoudemire, Basketball, NBA, New York, New York Knicks
