Ever since the New York Jets brought in former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick in the offseason, the starting quarterback controversy has been non-stop as to who should be the starter between Vick and incumbent Geno Smith.

On Tuesday, when asked if he had his starting quarterback in place for Week 1 against the Oakland Raiders in the regular season, Jets head coach Rex Ryan said that he had not picked between Smith and Vick just yet.

"I'm not naming a starter for Week 1," Ryan said Tuesday

Many think that Smith will be the guy once the preseason is over mostly due to the fact that Vick hasn't given Ryan a reason to name him the starter over Smith, but as we all know, that can change very quickly, especially if an injury happens. Last year, Smith became the guy in his rookie season after Mark Sanchez was injured in the preseason and ended up needing season-ending surgery, thus thrusting Smith into the starting role.

While the quarterback controversy continues, Smith will in fact be the starter on Friday night when the Jets square off in the annual preseason "MetLife Bowl" game against the New York Giants.

Ryan told the media on Tuesday that Smith will play the first two quarters with the starting offense; Vick will then likely then relieve Smith in the second half and could play the rest of the way.

In Smith's rookie season, he threw 12 touchdowns and 21 interceptions along with rushing for six touchdowns to go with 3,046 passing yards and lead the Jets to an 8-8 record.

Vick, in his final season in Philadelphia after arriving there in 2009 following a two year prison sentence, had five touchdown passes and three interceptions with 1,215 yards in seven starts before going down with an injury and paving the way for Nick Foles to take over as the full-time starter and lead to his release in the off-season.
