Last offseason one of the players that was signed by General Manager John Idzik was running back/kick returned Mike Goodson in the hopes that he would add speed to both areas. He was caught with a gun and drugs during a traffic stop and eventually suspended four games by the NFL. Now he is no longer a member of the New York Jets.
During this offseason the New York Jets have not seen or heard much from running back Mike Goodson. He was absent from the organized team activities (OTA's) and then decided to skip the mandatory mini camp that opened on Tuesday. As of Wednesday he was released by the team, ending a one year saga with Gang Green. Goodson only played in two games, week five versus the Falcons and week six versus the Steelers. In the Pittsburgh game he hurt his ACL and MCL and was placed on season ending injured reserve. The Jets have already added another former Oakland Raider return man, wide receiver Jacoby Ford, to replace Goodson, which ultimately made him expendable.
Also this week the New York Jets have signed the last of there 2014 NFL Draft picks as cornerback Dexter McDougle has agreed to his rookie contract. About two weeks ago first round pick, safety Calvin Pryor had signed as well, so all 12 draft choices are under contract to the team. Now the focus is going towards getting the team to gel together and work on all the offensive and defensive plays and making them second nature to all of the new team members.
Next month the New York Jets will open training camp and ramp up the process of getting the team ready for the preseason game in August and of course the regular season opener in September. All Jets fans hope for a better campaign than the 8-8 finish from 2013.Tags: Calvin Pryor, Dexter McDougle, Football, Jacoby Ford, John Idzik, Mike Goodson, New York, New York Jets, NFL
