The New York Jets are exploring different options for training camp in 2014, opening up the possibility that they relocate from SUNY Cortland. SUNY Cortland has played host to Jets training camp four of the past five years, all during Rex Ryan's tenure. When Rex Ryan was hired he requested to relocate training camp as a way to help the team come together (as shown on HBO's Hard Knocks). SUNY Cortland became the annual location, only missing out when the NFL Lockout wreaked havoc on the summer of 2011.

Under the agreement between the New York Jets and SUNY Cortland, this is the year the Jets are able to explore other possible locations to hold training camp. While there isn't any clear drawback to holding training camp at SUNY Cortland nor any real complaints from either side, the Jets are going to do their homework and check out all available options.

Jets general manager John Idzik explained:

“SUNY Cortland’s been great to us,” Idzik said. “They’re extremely hospitable and the campus is a terrific setting for our team to bond and prepare for the upcoming season. At this time, we simply wish to perform our due diligence to ensure we have the best possible environment for our camp."

The Jets seem to be in a good spot at SUNY Cortland. It's a great way to connect to the team's upstate fans who may not be able to make the trip to MetLife Stadium every year to see the Jets live. The Cortland community has always received the team extremely well and seen major benefits economically from hosting training camp. Rex Ryan has openly praised the SUNY Cortland facilities and the atmosphere.

If the Jets had cut ties before this season there would have been some unspecified conditions to fulfill. This year those conditions are off the table, which has triggered the team looking into other opportunities. Once a team finds a good spot that meets all of the necessary needs, it isn't often that training camp is moved from year to year. Coaches and players like stability and familiarity.
