Now that the New York Jets are well into the offseason following their 8-8 record in 2013, we can take a look at all of the players who are free agents for the club in 2014. There are several key starters and quality reserves that will hopefully be brought back as free agency opens on Tuesday, March 11.
Unrestricted Free Agents:
Quarterback David Garrard, Running backs Darius Reynaud and Lex Hilliard, Wide receiver/returner Josh Cribbs, Tight ends Jeff Cumberland and Kellen Winslow, Offensive lineman: Vlad Ducasse, Willie Colon and Austin Howard.
We could see Garrard returning to help mentor Geno Smith, if no other better quarterback option presents itself in the 2014 NFL Draft, plus Cumberland, Colon, Howard, Folk, Douzable and possibly Berry, since he didn't play in 2013.
Restricted Free Agents:
Linebackers: Garrett McIntyre and Nick Bellore
Cornerbacks: Darrin Walls and Isaiah Trufant
It may be time for the Jets to choose between keeping Lankster and Trufant, who are both solid special teams contributors as well as between Bellore and Mauga, the latter of which missed 2013 on injured reserve.
Running Back John Griffin
Wide receiver Vidal Hazelton
Tight end Konrad Reuland
Since these guys have two years with the club they can either accept a contract for the three-year veteran minimum salary or they will be forced to leave the league.
Well that sums up where the New York Jets are at for there own free agents as 2014 starts to take shape. They may be able to find some complimentary additions to add during the free agent signing period that starts on March 11th, and then they will look forward to the addition of fresh young talent in May during the 2014 NFL Draft.Tags: Austin Howard, Calvin Pace, David Garrard, Ed Reed, Football, New York, New York Jets, NFL, Nick Folk, Willie Colon
