New York Jets’ Sheldon Richardson Believes He Would Go First Overall in Redraft of 2013 NFL Draft

It's generally accepted that the New York Jets got a steal, and likely the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, when they snagged Sheldon Richardson at No. 13 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. The Jets drafted the former Missouri defensive lineman with the second of their two first round selections and so far he has overshadowed their first pick, cornerback Dee Milliner. Sheldon Richardson not only believes he would go ahead of Dee Milliner if the NFL decided to re-draft the 2013 NFL Draft, but thinks that he would be the first overall selection by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Sheldon Richardson is pretty confident in his ability and what he has done so far with the New York Jets. His rookie season has seen him slide in alongside Muhammad Wilkerson as one of the cornerstones of the team's stout front seven. Richardson has posted 66 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble. He's also pretty confident about where he would be drafted if the NFL were to re-do the 2013 NFL Draft, as he told Matt Elhart of ESPN New York:

"Probably No. 1, most likely," Richardson said of where he'd go in a redraft. "Kansas City? Yeah. I went into the draft thinking I'd be the No. 1 pick. I had a shot."

This is a fluid situation, with the ups and downs of each individual player's career shifting perceptions about who is the "best" player from the 2013 NFL Draft, but Sheldon Richardson is in the discussion. Right now, 13 games into the season is a strange point to truly consider what would happen with a redraft, but Sheldon Richardson would be a serious contender to go first overall.

Of course, there won't be a redraft, which means that the Jets made what looks like a great selection in Sheldon Richardson. The jury is still out on Dee Milliner and Geno Smith, but John Idzik and the Jets may have come out of the 2013 NFL Draft with the best player.
