New York Jets general manager wrote a thank-you letter to Temple head coach Matt Rhule, thanking the Temple program for sending Muhammad Wilkerson, Jaiquawn Jarrett and Michael Campbell to the NFL. The Jets have plenty to be thankful for, as Muhammad Wilkerson is one of the stars of their defense and Jaiquawn Jarrett is a regular contributor on defense. Michael Campbell has played in four games for the Jets this season.
Muhammad Wilkerson has racked up 10 sacks, two forced fumbles, three pass deflections and an interception this season. The Jets drafted him in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft and he has lived up to that investment, serving as the anchor of their front seven defensively. Jaiquawn Jarrett was drafted in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and signed with the Jets in December of 2012 after being released by Philadelphia. Michael Campbell originally signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2011, bouncing between free agency and the team's practice squad. He spent some time with the St. Louis Rams in 2012 before joining the Jets again in 2013.
This is a pretty cool gesture on the part of the Jets. It's an obvious source of pride for any college program to send a player to the NFL, especially one that isn't viewed as a typical football factory for NFL Draft prospects. Temple has produced some impressive talent over the past few years, and beyond that their players have shown themselves to be good citizens as well. Having an NFL general manager reach out to acknowledge your program is not just a nice thing for your ego, but also could be a boost in terms of recruiting.
