Three games into the NFL regular season, the season becomes a battle of attrition that will test the depth of each franchise. Injuries aren't only limited to games, as the New York Jets found out today. Rookie cornerback Dee Milliner injured his hamstring in practice today and did not make it through the entire workout. Rookie defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson sat out of practice today with a nagging shoulder injury.
The first two selections for the New York Jets in the 2013 NFL Draft didn't make it through practice practice today, with Sheldon Richardson sitting out the entire practice and Dee Milliner going down with a hamstring injury. Richardson is confident he will play Sunday, as he has been managing the injury and continues to play through it. At this point, Dee Milliner has become a package player at cornerback and the Jets probably wouldn't feel a major impact if he can't play on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.
Dee Milliner has been injury prone, which will be a concern moving forward. It's unclear how severe the hamstring injury is as the team listed him as a limited participant for today's practice. Darrin Walls has shown that he can hold his own and will likely see more playing time if Milliner is out for an extended period of time. If Kyle Wilson continues to be called for penalties, Walls could be forced into major playing time.
It's not unusual for the injury list to start getting longer at this point of the season. The NFL can be as much about staying healthy as it is about mental preparation and physical execution. The Jets don't have the overall team depth to absorb many injuries, so staying healthy is even more important. The team has gotten some key players back in the lineup, such as Jeremy Kerley and Quinton Coples. Santonio Holmes is looking better each week.
