It looks like the New York Jets will be all set with no one missing action this Sunday when they take on the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium. After some injuries and possible suspensions, several key players look to be ready for the game.
The offensive players that will definitely return are Willie Colon and D'Brickashaw Ferguson. Colon and Ferguson escaped a suspension for their roles in the brawl that occurred near the end of the game against the New England Patriots, which resulted in both of them being ejected from the game. They still received fines from the NFL. One more player on offense who may be rady to return is Jeremy Kerley, who missed the Thursday night game in New England due to a concussion. Kerley has been practicing but with no contact. Although he has not been cleared to play Sunday, signs seem to be pointing to him suiting up as he has been feeling more comfortable as he keeps practicing.
On the defensive side of the ball, Quinton Coples is coming off of an ankle injury that occurred in preseason and will likely play this week. He has returned to practice with limited reps, but the team is confident he will be good to go when the game starts. Muhammad Wilkerson suffered an ankle injury against the Patriots, but it turns out that the injury was nothing major as he is expected to play against the Bills.
Being able to have all of these players active will be a huge plus for the Jets as they need a win to avoid falling to 1-2 and standing in last place in the AFC East. The defense has already been performing at a high quality, especially against the run. Wilkerson returning quickly should secure that level of play, and the return of Coples should make this defense even better as he will take his spot at the outside linebacker position and bring pressure to E.J. Manuel and try to keep C.J. Spiller from flying up the field.
If the Jets lost Ferguson and Colon for the week, that would have put them in a bad situation on offense. Both are very crucial parts of the offensive line, and less experienced players may not have been able to take on the job as well. Kerley returning would also be a big plus as the Jets need another target for Geno Smith to find. After a game in which the receivers had multiple drops, Kerley would bring an extra set of hands and good speed that give Smith another chance at yards in the air.
This week is a big game, and the Jets will seem to have all the pieces to their puzzle ready. Look for each player mentioned to have a big role when the Bills and Jets square off this Sunday.
