As of 6 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday all NFL teams had to trim down their rosters to 53 players, and the New York Jets made 22 cuts to get down to that limit. There were some slight surprises but fans can tell the new regime led by General Manager John Idzik is not sentimental on keeping talents held over from the previous front office leadership. The Jets also scoured the cuts from other teams and scooped up three players: Alex Green, Ben Ijalana and Scott Solomon.
All newly signed players (without numbers assigned) are in BOLD.
Wide Receivers: (10) Santonio Holmes, (84) Stephen Hill, (11) Jeremy Kerley, (19) Clyde Gates, (85) Ryan Spadola
Tight Ends: (87) Jeff Cumberland, (81) Kellen Winslow, (88) Konrad Reuland
Linemen: Centers (74) Nick Mangold, (72) Caleb Schlauderaff, Guards (66) Willie Colon, (62) Vladimir Ducasse, (67) Brian Winters, (65) William Campbell, Tackles (60) D'Brickashaw Ferguson, (77) Austin Howard, (75) Oday Aboushi, (XX) Ben Ijalana
Linemen: Ends (96) Muhammad Wilkerson, (78) Leger Douzable, Tackle (91) Sheldon Richardson, Nose (93) Kenrick Ellis, (94) Damon Harrison
Linebackers: Outside (98) Quinton Coples, (97) Calvin Pace, (50) Garrett McIntyre, (95) Antwan Barnes, (55) Ricky Sapp, (XX) Scott Solomon, Inside (52) David Harris, (56) Demario Davis, (54) Nick Bellore
Cornerbacks: (31) Antonio Cromartie, (27) Dee Milliner, (20) Kyle Wilson, (21) Ellis Lankster (35) Isaiah Trufant, (30) Darrin Walls
Safeties: (26) Dawan Landry, (39) Antonio Allen, (32) Josh Bush, (37) Jaiquawn Jarrett
Kicker: (2) Nick Folk, Punter: (3) Robert Malone, Long Snapper: (46) Tanner Purdum
Practice Squad members: WR: (16) Michael Campbell, DL: (92) Tevita Finau, TE: (44) Chris Pantale, OL: (63) Dalton Freeman, (79) J.B. Shugarts, DB: (45) Rontez Miles, LB: (58) Troy Davis, and expect LB (47) Danny Lansanah to be added once he (hopefully) clears waivers.
Depth could be an issue with the team only keeping five defensive linemen even though many may count Quinton Coples towards the depth at end, or possibly Will Campbell as he played defensive tackle as well in college. Josh Mauga did not play at all this preseason and was placed on injured reserve due to his back injury. All members of the 2013 NFL Draft class made the opening roster despite one or two being expected to open on the practice squad.
