On Wednesday the New York Jets placed last year's starting fullback throughout most of the season, Lex Hilliard, on injured reserve which will end his 2013 season. Hilliard had not played so far in the preseason because of injured ribs and fractured his shoulder blade in practice. Wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi was signed late in the afternoon Thursday.

It was unfortunate for Lex Hilliard that he further injured himself because the New York Jets were looking forward to him being a solid special teams contributor despite rookie full back Tommy Bohanon playing well. To replace Hilliard the Jets signed wide receiver Marcus Rucker. He stands six-foot, four-inches tall and weighs 185 pounds out of Memphis. Rucker was assigned No. 89 and added to replace Titus Ryan who has been released after leaving the team for undisclosed reasons. Mohamed Massaquoi joins the Jets after playing against them for the Jaguars last week. He will wear No. 86, his signing was reported by Rich Cimini of ESPN New York.

Also added to the Jets roster was center Scott Wedige as a waiver claim from the Arizona Cardinals. Wedige stands at six-foot, four-inches tall and weighs in at 310 pounds from Northern Illinois and played in two games with the Cardinals. Wedige was assigned No. 57. The Jets coaches apparently are not pleased with their options behind Nick Mangold at center especially since the leading candidate to back him up, Dalton Freeman, has been injured and hasn't played a snap in the preseason. Lastly, tight end Mike Shanahan was released.

Hopefully rookie Tommy Bohanon can acclimate quickly to being the lead blocker on offense in front of Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and the rest of the New York Jets running back, plus possibly contribute on special teams. He has been able to make catches out of the back field in Marty Mornhinweg's offense which is a plus so far in winning the starting spot.
