New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford last punted for the New York Jets in 2010. After the 2010 season, Steve Weatherford joined the Giants, winning a Super Bowl with the team in 2011. It's now the summer of 2013 with training camp for the 2013 NFL regular season just around the corner – the third regular season for Steve Weatherford with the Giants. For some reason, he still can't stop talking about former Jets special teams coach Mike Westhoff. The two clearly did not share much affection for each other, but at some point we need to all move on.
The feud between Steve Weatherford and Mike Westhoff is nothing new. In fact, it's very old and played out at this point. With Mike Westhoff retiring as special teams coordinator for the New York Jets after last season, and having not mentioned Steve Weatherford in a long time, there's only one reason why this keeps popping up: Steve Weatherford won't let it die out.
"It's been a dream come true. I enjoyed playing for Rex Ryan but the special teams coach (Mike Westhoff) was very difficult to get along with both on and off the field. Here, the Giants have treated me great since the moment I walked in here. I show up early and leave late and give everything I have. I think the Giants have an appreciation for that. I absolutely love being here. I'd play for free."
Again, this is nothing new for Steve Weatherford. He has been fairly active in publicly stating his past issues with Mike Westhoff. Even in February of 2012, as Weatherford and the Giants were preparing to take on the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, Steve Weatherford was talking about Mike Westhoff.
At this point the spat has gone past that of personal differences and crossed into just being weird. Steve Weatherford is two full seasons removed from the Jets and Mike Westhoff. Mike Westhoff isn't even coaching this season. Why is this still an issue?
