The New York Jets set up a meeting with Brady Quinn last offseason, but they ended up cancelling said meeting when they decided to sign Drew Stanton. We explored the possibility of the Jets signing Brady Quinn this offseason already, and Chris Mortensen of "NFL 32" on ESPN reports that Brady Quinn is expected to end up with the Jets. If the signing actually happens, the Jets are expected to enter training camp with five quarterbacks: Mark Sanchez, Brady Quinn, Greg McElroy, Matt Simms and another free agent signing.
Brady Quinn hasn't done much to impress over the course of his NFL career, but New York Jets quarterbacks coach David Lee definitely likes him. That's the word from ESPN's Chris Mortensen, who reported on "NFL 32" that Brady Quinn is expected to sign with the Jets. The Jets were interested in Brady Quinn last offseason, but opted to sign Drew Stanton. They then traded Stanton to the Indianapolis Colts when they acquired Tim Tebow.
Speaking of Tim Tebow, he's not in the plans if the team signs Brady Quinn. The Jets will reportedly enter training camp with five quarterbacks, but that would include another free agent signee joining Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroy, Matt Simms and Brady Quinn.
Brady Quinn will come cheap, and joining the Jets will be an upgrade in talent compared to what he's dealt with over the course of his NFL career. His NFL career has been a far cry from the production at Notre Dame that got him into the discussion as possibly the first quarterback taken in the 2007 NFL Draft. Jamarcus Russell, who was the first overall selection that year, is no longer in the NFL, but he is trying to come back as a professional quarterback. Oh, and there was talk of the Jets being interested in him, too.
Brady Quinn threw for just 1,138 yards last season in eight starts. In Week 17 against the Denver Broncos, he completed seven of 16 passes for 49 yards. When AP style rules dictate that the completion number for a quarterback be written out instead of entered numerically (as in anything under 10), you know it's not good.
But, once again, the Jets obviously saw something that interested them last offseason. David Lee, the new quarterbacks coach, also sees something. Now we'll see if there's anything there.
In the end, for the Jets, there's just something about Brady.
