The New York Jets are expected to name Tom Gamble as their new general manager soon. So much for the decision to keep Rex Ryan being a detriment to the Jets finding a new general manager, as the team landed the most sought after candidate in Tom Gamble, and his connection to Rex Ryan likely played a big part in that. Tom Gamble is currently the director of player personnel for the San Francisco 49ers.
Tom Gamble is currently the front-runner to succeed Mike Tannenbaum as general manager of the new York Jets. Tom Gamble has played an important role in the construction of the San Francisco 49ers, and given their success the past few seasons the Jets would certainly sign up for similar results.
Tom Gamble worked as a quality control coach with the Jets in 1995-1996. That's not his one tie to the Jets, as his first job was under Rex Ryan's father, Buddy Ryan. As a result, he is good friends with Rex Ryan.
It has been reported that Tom Gamble turned down a second interview with the Jacksonville Jaguars because he is focused on landing the Jets job. That's good news for the Jets, as Gamble seems like a great fit and apparently really wants to be part of the organization.
The Jets will still interview Marc Ross of the New York Giants tomorrow.
