The New York Jets boast the two most overrated players in the NFL according to their fellow players, in quarterbacks Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez. Sports Illustrated released a poll of 180 NFL players that asked them to name the most overrated player in the league. Tim Tebow won by a wide margin, receiving 34 percent of the vote, and Mark Sanchez finished tied for second with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo with right percent of the vote.
New York Jets quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow have been called out by their fellow NFL players as the two most-overrated players in the league. It's a weird distinction for two quarterbacks who are constantly ripped about their deficiencies at the quarterback position. How can you be overrated when everyone thinks you're a subpar quarterback?
Media attention, good or bad, surely factors into the equation. With Tim Tebow, the hordes of fans who love him also help him earn a massive number of votes in a poll of fellow players who don't get the same attention. Being in the New York media market, Mark Sanchez gets some points there as well, though his following isn't quite as big or as obsessed as the Tebow faithful.
Still, the question wasn't asking Which NFL player gets too much attention. As far as being overrated, Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow have been rated poorly as pure quarterbacks by just about everyone behind a microphone or keyboard. Do they not belong an an NFL roster anywhere? Or are they just easy targets because they are talked about all the time, whether that discussion is positive or negative?
