The New York Jets have lost cornerback Darrelle Revis for the season, but they should have Dustin Keller back for the first time since the opening offensive play of the season. Dustin Keller made a seven yard catch on that play, but came up lame and didn't return to the game. He has been absent from the lineup since, and his absence has been very noticeable. Going up against a dominant San Francisco 49ers defense, his return is a nice boost for the Jets offense.

New York Jets tight end Dustin Keller is the lone holdover in the receiving corps from Mark Sanchez's rookie season, having served as a security blanket throughout the young quarterback's career. Dustin Keller has led the Jets in receptions the past two seasons, despite disappearing from the offense for weeks at a time. Given Tony Sparano's penchant for heavily using his tight ends, many were projecting a huge season for Dustin Keller. His hamstring injury slowed down those plans.

The return of Dustin Keller isn't just a nice bonus for this weekend, it's a needed addition. Rookie wide receiver Stephen Hill is expected to miss this Sunday's game against the 49ers and although he has been inconsistent, his presence will be missed. Dustin Keller can help lessen that blow while also adding a legitimate receiving threat at tight end. He should also slide the other tight ends down the depth chart, sparing us from having to watch the tight sets featuring Dedrick Epps and Konrad Reuland together.

Rex Ryan says that he assumes Dustin Keller will play this weekend, and that's welcome news for the Jets offense. With or without Dustin Keller, the 49ers defense is going to present a major challenge for the Jets offense – one that most are expecting them to fail. Can Tony Sparano and Mark Sanchez piece together a respectable performance that gives the Jets a chance?
