Ready for some Darrelle Revis holdout talk? There's no definitive answer still about whether New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis will holdout, but ESPN NFL Insider Chris Mortensen wouldn't be surprised if Darrelle Revis is absent from Jets training camp July 26. In fact it's just the opposite, as Mortensen would be surprised if Darrelle Revis does show for training camp.

The potential Darrelle Revis holdout was one of the major topics Chris Mortensen spoke about on ESPN's "Mike and Mike" today. Mortensen said that he wouldn't put a holdout past New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis:

"That one, he keeps everybody guessing. I'm almost surprised if he's there on day one."

Just to be clear, Mortensen didn't cite any specific reason or any rumblings when he made that comment. There's still no indication from Darrelle Revis and his camp either way. Your guess is as good as ours. Or Chris Mortensen's.

The one thing that looms large and probably hasn't been mentioned enough is the clause Mike Tannenbaum slipped into the last deal. If Darrelle Revis misses one day of training camp, it automatically kicks in three more years at the end of the contract, extending it from a four-year deal to a seven-year deal. If Darrelle Revis shows up to training camp this year and next year he will either have a new Jets contract in hand or he will hit the free agent market in 2014. If he misses one day of training camp, he could be staring at three more years on the end of the deal.

For most players that would force them to show up. Most players don't have the resolve or the family history of Darrelle Revis. While that clause might be the deterrent that ultimately forces Darrelle Revis to show up at SUNY Cortland for training camp July 26, we have to keep in mind that hi uncle, Sean Gilbert, once sat out an entire season because of a contract situation. Given how important Darrelle Revis is to the Jets defense, he still has some leverage if that clause kicks in. Just because he's under contract doesn't mean he has to play.

In the meantime, Jets fans wait with bated breath. Just 10 days until we have an answer.
