After striking out on Reggie Nelson, the New York Jets signed LaRon Landry to a one year deal worth $4 million today. Landry was expected to make other visits after stopping in to see the Jets over the weekend, but jumped at the offer the Jets gave him. Landry should be a nice fit in Rex Ryan's defense.

LaRon Landry has had some injury issues the past few seasons, but the Jets are betting that he can stay healthy and become a special weapon in Rex Ryan's attacking defense. Landry's mentality, physical ability and toughness makes him a great fit. He will certainly be an upgrade on the safety blitzes that Ryan likes to throw in from time to time.

The Jets are still looking for a safety to pair with him that can be relied on as the free safety, leaning more towards pass coverage responsibilities. The duties will be shared between the two safeties, but a solid center fielder next to Landry would allow him some freedom to freelance and make big plays. Oshiomogho Atogwe could be that guy.

For Landry, the one year deal is a chance to proves he's healthy, then he can try to cash in next offseason. Ryan's defense will allow him to put up great numbers and a few highlights to up his value if he can stay on the field.

It's nice to see the Jets get another signing under their belts, as they can now look to other areas while still trying to upgrade their safety situation.
