San Diego Chargers’ Mike McCoy Wary of New York Giants’ Pass Rush

The New York Giants may rank near the bottom of the league in sacks, but San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy remains wary of their pass rush nonetheless.

Although they aren't quite the daunting tandem they once were, the Big Blue pass rush still has a historical reputation that many have not yet dismissed. And after a four-sack performance by defensive end Justin Tuck a week ago, McCoy knows they might be coming out of their shell.

“I think defensively, historically, they’ve always done a great job of getting after the quarterback,” McCoy. “They’ve always rushed them and put pressure on the quarterback and you see that on film.”

And while the Chargers' offensive line has only allowed quarterback Philip Rivers to be sacked 22 times — which is good for fourth best in the league — they still feel Big Blue has begun to turn it on of late and pose a legitimate threat.

"They’re physical up front. As what you saw last Sunday, they can generate pressure on the quarterback especially Justin Tuck, who had to decide to start playing like that coming in, huh?,” offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt added.

In order to give themselves a shot on Sunday, the Giants pass rush will have to turn back the clocks a bit. To shake Rivers, they're going to have to hit him early and often.
