For the last two weeks, the trade speculation and rumors surrounding New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has been all over the place, but on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. NFL trade deadline, the team ended all of the rumors for good.
Adam Schefter of ESPN has reported that the Giants will in fact keep Nicks and will not trade him to a team looking for wide receiver help like the San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions or Carolina Panthers.
"Giants never wavered: keeping WR Hakeem Nicks," he tweeted.
With the 25-year-old wide receiver set to hit the open market after the season as a free agent and the Giants struggling at the start of the 2013 season, a lot of people around football were really beginning to wonder if the team would get what they could for Nicks and re-build for the future and go with Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle as the wide receivers, but with Randle not having the kind of year the team had hoped for, the Giants weren't going to part with their number one receiver.
Plus, throw in the fact now that the Giants have won two consecutive games are now at 2-6 and just two games back in the NFC East division behind the Dallas Cowboys and it only gave the Giants more reason to hang onto Nicks and make a run at potentially getting to the playoffs in the second half of the season.
In eight games played, Nicks has caught 34 passes for 521 yards, although no touchdowns yet. In his last game for the Giants, he had seven catches for 51 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles.
