For the very first time here in 2013, fans of the New York Giants should be feeling a very pleasant Monday morning hangover (they defeated the Minnesota Vikings on a Monday night). Not only is the team 2-0 after a brutal 0-6 start, but in addition to their 15-7 defeat of the Philadelphia Eagles, both the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins crumbled on Sunday. As such, the once written off Giants are now only two games back in the NFC East with one game remaining against the division-leading Cowboys.
As Ice Cube once said, today is a good day.
It has been Beason in recent weeks who has gotten the entire Giants’ defense to show up to work a half-hour early, at 7:30 a.m., for a players-only film session to complement the work they do with the coaches.
Rarely does a new player come to a team, assert himself and be received with open arms by his new teammates the way Beason has with the Giants.
“He’s made a great impact,’’ cornerback Terrell Thomas said.
The minute Antrel Rolle did it, he knew it was a “bonehead" move, but it was too late to stop the flags from flying. So he did the only thing he could do.
He went straight to his coach and apologized before Tom Coughlin had a chance to yell.
“The ball is rolling in the right direction,” David Diehl said. “Two games out. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a position where you’re 2-6 and you still have the opportunity to make the playoffs and win the division.”
Here’s the message the Giants are sending: They’re baaack.
“Absolutely,” Diehl said.
“We still believe,” Manning said. “These last two weeks we’ve played our best football, together as a team, both sides, helping each other out, relying on each other. We’ve got to continue to build off that.”
