At the running back position, it's been a case of next man up for the New York Giants in 2013. In their Week 8 game on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, it looks like Peyton Hillis will be the next man up for the team in the starting role.
With Brandon Jacobs dealing with a hamstring injury that has kept him out of practice over the last two weeks and is listed as doubtful for the game against the Eagles which means he will likely not be playing; Hillis will likely be starting on Sunday, as Dave Hutchinson of the Newark-Star Ledger reported on Friday.
Hillis was signed by the Giants on October 16 after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back on September 21 and was back home coaching ay a local high school in Tennessee, but was then inserted into the Giants lineup along with Michael Cox for their Week 7 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings this past Monday night and saw a great deal of playing time with Jacobs missing his first game with the hamstring injury.
In his first game with the Giants, Hillis had 18 carries for 36 yards with a touchdown and had five catches for 45 yards in a 23-7 win for the team; the first of the season. Now Hillis will hope to become a big part of the offense and look to help the Giants get their second win of the season against the Eagles and hope for some revenge from Week 5 when the Eagles defeated them at MetLife Stadium 36-21.
Hillis and Cox are currently the only two running backs that are healthy on the active roster; as along with Jacobs, David Wilson is out with a neck injury, Andre Brown is out with a leg injury and Da'Rel Scott is on season-ending injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
