After his tenure with the Giants, Austin signed with the Miami Dolphins on September 24 as roster depth, played in two games and made one total tackle with the team, but after Paul Soliani returned to Miami from injuries, the Dolphins didn't need Austin on the team anymore, thus leading to the team cutting the former North Carolina Tar Heel on October 16.
Austin didn't stay unemployed for long, as he signed with the Dallas Cowboys on Monday, as Darin Gantt of NBC's Pro Football Talk reported. Austin is the second former Giant to sign with the Cowboys this season; as linebacker Kyle Bosworth also signed with the Cowboys just before the start of the season after being released by the Giants in late August, just like Austin.
Austin is a former second-round pick of the Giants from the 2010 NFL Draft and many experts had very high hopes before he got into trouble while he was at UNC, but got into trouble while attending school and dropping his value from being a first round draft pick down all the way down to the second round.
The Cowboys need for Austin is due to Dallas' defensive line depth being slashed; Anthony Spencer is on injured reserve, DeMarcus Ware is currently out with an injury and Jay Ratliff was just released, thus Austin being signed as help.
If Austin can stay on the roster with Dallas, he'll have a chance to face his former team in Week 12 on Sunday, November 24 when Dallas travels to MetLife Stadium to face the Giants in a rematch from Week 1.
