The New York Giants already are very thin at the running back position and will likely be without another starter when they play their Week 7 game on Monday night.
Dan Graziano of ESPN New York has reported that Brandon Jacobs will likely be out for Monday's game at MetLife Stadium against the Minnesota Vikings with a hamstring injury that he has been bothered with all week and kept him out of practice during the week.
With Jacobs not playing against the Vikings, that leaves rookie Michael Cox and newly signed Peyton Hillis as the two remaining running backs left on the Giants depth chart; Hillis could be the one who sees the bulk of the carries as he's the veteran with experience since Cox has yet to take a single snap on offense during his first season in the league.
In 2013, Jacobs has 154 yards rushing with three touchdowns on 44 carries since being signed before Week 2 against the Denver Broncos. Last week against the Chicago Bears in Week 6, Jacobs rushed for 106 yards on 22 carries and had two touchdowns; showing signs of his old self that used to dominate and bulldoze defenders with his hard-nosed running attack.
Jacobs adds to the laundry list of Giants running backs out; as David Wilson is currently dealing with a neck injury that could force him to miss the rest of the season if not healed, Andre Brown won't return until Week 10 with a leg injury and Da'Rel Scott is on season-ending injured reserve with a hamstring injury he suffered last week against the Bears; and now the injury to Jacobs which ultimately lead to the signing of Hillis on Wednesday.
