The New York Giants roster in 2013 have been completely decimated by injuries all season long, which has forced them to make more roster moves than an fantasy football owner would in Week 7. For the Giants though, they're set to get two of their key players back just in time for their Week 7 Monday night game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Dave Hutchinson of the Newark-Star Ledger reported on Friday that starting center David Baas and cornerback Corey Webster are set to return from their injuries and play for the Giants when they take the field at MetLife Stadium and try to win their first game of the season against the 1-4 Vikings.
Baas has been out since Week 3 when he suffered a neck injury against the Carolina Panthers, but he has practiced for the last three days with the first-team offense and should take over the starting center duties for Jim Cordle, who has started in place for Baas while he's been on the sidelines for the last three weeks and is looking forward to bolstering an offensive line that has struggled for most of the season.
“(Thursday) was a good day and today was even better,” Baas said. “Our teams is out there working hard to do every possible to go out and play our best on Monday night and I want to be apart of that. So far, things are going well.”
Webster has been out since Week 2 against the Denver Broncos with a groin injury and the team has been without Aaron Ross, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve with a back injury and Jayron Hosley has been out with a hamstring injury leaving Prince Amukamara, Terrell Thomas, Trumaine McBride and Charles James as the only active corners on the team, but getting Webster back will help and his groin is feeling much better and just like Baas, is anxious to get out on the field for the Giants.
“I got a couple of days of practice,” he said. “I’m happy to be back out there with the fellows and everything is still on course to be out there on Monday.”
Aside from getting Baas and Webster back, Hosley and tight end Adrien Robinson also returned to the team and practiced this week; Robinson has yet to play a single game for the Giants in 2013 with a foot injury he suffered at the end of the preseason. Both their statuses for Monday night against Minnesota have yet to be announced.
