Chris Snee hasn't seen a football field for the New York Giants since leaving in the middle of their Week 3 loss to the Carolina Panthers with reported hip pain. That pain hasn't gotten any worse and looks like it might cost Snee the rest of the season.
Tom Rock of Newsday has reported that the Giants starting right guard has a torn labrum in his hip, which is making it very hard for him to walk and has been in a lot of pain and if the pain doesn't get any better, then Snee is likely headed for season-ending surgery to repair the damage.
Snee already had surgery in the off-season to fix his one hip, but this injury is to the other hip and not the one that was surgically repaired in the spring time. The long-time veteran of the Giants just restructured his contract for the second time this month on Monday, as he reduced his base salary from $4.2 million down to $1.7 million, as the $2.5 million that was taken from the salary will go to bonus money and helped clear around $1.25 million of cap room for the Giants.
However, given Snee's age and now recent injury struggles, there could be a good chance that Snee is either cut after the season or simply retires after 10 years with the team.
The 31-year-old son-in-law of Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is a former second-round draft pick of the team back in the 2004 NFL Draft out of Boston College and took the starting right guard duties in his rookie season and has been there ever since. In 2008, Snee signed a six-year, $41.25 million extension with $17 million of it guaranteed and a $13.5 million signing bonus.
Snee has also been the starting right guard for both Giants Super Bowl teams and is one of two active offensive lineman still on the Giants from those respective championship teams.
